Am I Exempt From Continuing Ed?

As you may be aware, a new law went into effect at the end of the last legislative session that exempts certain licensees from taking continuing education.

During the 2006 Legislative Session the General Assembly of South Carolina passed a law allowing certain individuals to be exempt from continuing education requirements. To qualify for these exemptions an individual must be able to answer yes to one of these questions:

1) Are you 60 years of age, been licensed by the Board each of the last fifteen (15) years and never been disciplined by the Board?

2) Are you 50 years of age, been licensed by the board each of the last thirty (30) years and never been disciplined by the Board?

The SC State Board of Cosmetology is the agency in charge of enforcing this law and determining who is eligible to be exempt from continuing education. You will be receiving further information from them with your 2007 renewal form.

ACSP has a no refund policy for Continuing Education Classes. However, we understand that many people may not have been aware of this new law. Therefore we are allowing people to transfer their money to another person prior to class. This change must take place as outlined below.

1) You may make arrangements with someone else for them to take your spot in class and they can pay you what you paid for the class. All financial transactions are between you and the person taking your spot.

2) This transfer must be done prior to class and you must call the ACSP State Office to let us know the name of the person replacing you.

In the past, ACSP has not allowed people to “take someone’s spot” but we are allowing it temporarily until the word has completely spread about this law. No refunds will be given and no transfers will be accepted for classes that have already occurred.
